The “Keep The Old Church Cool” Campaign is Heating up!
If you’ve ever been to a concert in the summer at The Old Church you know just how hot it can get! The Old Church is looking to the community to help raise $25,000 towards the upgrade of our current cooling and heating systems. Thanks to Michael Allen Harrison, who has graciously agreed to perform a fundraising concert for The Old Church, we hope to soon reach this goal.
As a pianist and composer, Michael Allen Harrison delivers music to the heart. His classical contemporary style carves a distinct niche of timeless music that has connected with so many during his two and a half decade career.
Recognized as a Steinway Signature Artist, Michael has built a reputation as a prolific and stylistically multifaceted pianist, playing classical, new age/world and contemporary jazz. In a career that has spanned over two decades, he has expanded his talents as a producer, composer and arranger.
Michael is known for his piano solo performances and recordings, his upbeat sound with his band, his love for teaching and perhaps mostly known for his giving spirit. He was honored with a star on the walk of fame in front of the Portland Performing Arts Center for his artistic and community contributions to his beloved city of Portland Oregon.
Michael’s unique brand of music ranges from movie scores to passionate arrangements for piano, orchestra, ballet, jazz, fusion, Smooth Jazz, Pop, New Age, and Adult Contemporary. Michael Allen Harrison’s CD, “Emotional Connection”, received a NASA Orbiting Certificate for airplay in space on the space shuttle ENDEAVOR. His 1994 album “Circle of Influence” went up on the space shuttle DISCOVERY. On January 29, 1999, Michael was invited to perform in NYC at the United Nations premiering “Remembrance”, a tribute song to the 50th Anniversary of Israel’s Independence (which can be heard on his benefit CD “Seasons of Peace”, recorded for the organization “Season of Non-Violence). Michael performed at THE WORLD PEACE CONFERENCE at The Hague, in the Netherlands on May 14, 1999.

World Play Theatre presents: A Christmas Carol: A Victorian Reading. December 20 at 12noon. Working from the text of the author’s original reading copy, veteran professional actor Thom Bray faithfully re-creates the theatrical experience that Dickens’ Victorian audiences had. After the performance, Mr. Dickens will be available for photos.

About the Artists:
Photo of “Psycho analysis dolls coming to life” by Dawn Panttaja
After many years of reclusive creation, Dawn Panttaja stepped down from her attic. She has been making dolls and art pottery for almost 10 years and recently had her piece “Zelda” displayed in the Governor’s Mansion. As part of her New Year’s resolution to become a “real, grown up artist,” she will be showing her never before seen sculpt dolls and art pieces.
Dawn has a background in theatre and is also a compulsive reader of non-fiction. “I often find the reading of an obscure biography will lead me to creating a new work.” She also makes a living playing music, writing, sewing costumes, building sets and props. But her passion is dolls, especially old ones that have been loved or forgotten, and are chipped and frazzled. Her attic is filled with vintage sewing supplies, which include beads, old fabric, lace and trims that are used in her creations. Her love of theatre is distilled into these beautiful dolls, which she dresses either in clay, glaze or antique finery. “I’m an old woman trapped in a young woman’s body, says Alicia Justus, artist commonly known as Miss Red Star. Reared in Klamath Fall, Red Star Art is named in honor of a high school art teacher who Justus says used to place a red star on students’ work. He let Justus compete in school art fairs even after she dropped out. Justus (pronounced “Justice”) creates art at an almost compulsive rate. Chloe Eudaly, owner of Reading Frenzy says, “I believe Alicia is compelled by forces almost beyond her control to express her visions, with no regard to trend, fad or style.” For more info:
